Sherry Laboratories Expands in Lafayette, Louisiana with Acquisition of two local firms
December 14, 1998

Lafayette, Louisiana - Sherry Laboratories announced today the acquisition of two Lafayette-based companies, Veritest, Inc. with its operating unit Envirotest Bioassay and the Bioassay Division of Ambar Laboratories. Effective immediately, Ambar Bioassay, Envirotest Bioassay, and Veritest become a part of the nationwide, seven-location network of Sherry Laboratories as a new division of Sherry Laboratories/Louisiana.

Serving the petroleum and petrochemical markets, Envirotest Bioassay and Ambar Bioassay have provided drilling fluid, produced water, and fresh water bioassay toxicity testing for business, industry, and environmental compliance customers. The only independent oil well cement testing laboratory, Veritest provided services for the drilling industry as well as related oil service companies.

Envirotest, founded in 1985 by Richard Dischler, has established itself as one of the leading laboratories in innovative testing services and quality analysis. The Ambar Bioassay Division, an outgrowth of Ambar Technical Laboratories, is also recognized throughout the petroleum industry as a leader in both technology and customer service. The operations and staff of the Ambar Bioassay Division and Envirotest will be consolidated in Sherry Laboratories’ state-of-the-art facilities on Pinhook Drive in Lafayette.

Kevin Dischler, previously with Envirotest, has been named Director of the Sherry Laboratories Bioassay operations. In addition, Mr. Dischler will serve as operations manager for the cement testing operations. Wayne Roy has been named Technical Manager for all bioassay operations.

Sherry Laboratories first became affiliated with Louisiana’s oil and gas markets with the acquisition of James Laboratories, another Lafayette company. James Laboratories, specializing in environmental analyses, became the Sherry Laboratories/Louisiana division in 1991. Just two months ago, Sherry Laboratories expanded significantly in Lafayette with the acquisition of Petroleum Analyst, Inc. and its operating division, Analytical Standards.

According to Ben James, President of Sherry Laboratories/Louisiana, "We are excited about completing the acquisitions of Envirotest, Veritest, and the Ambar Bioassay operations because we can now offer our growing customer base a complete suite of testing and analytical services. We have assembled the ‘best of the best’ people, facilities, and analytical services to bring to our customers a higher quality and more complete array of services than anyone else in our markets. With the dual acquisition, Sherry Laboratories will provide the largest and most complete bioassay testing capability in the oil fields of Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma."

Mel Barnell, President of the national network of Sherry Laboratories, adds: "Sherry Laboratories/Louisiana can now offer a complete and comprehensive environmental compliance assessment package to our petroleum and petrochemical customers. This significant new capacity positions us to continue as a leader in providing high quality environmental testing services to our growing industrial and commercial clients. We are very enthusiastic about the additional services we now offer through our national network of laboratories."
